About Us

  • Lucia Goodwin began her teaching career in Aurora at South Lake Street School (later known as Abraham Lincoln School).
     
  • From 1903 to 1936, she taught math at West Aurora High School.
     
  • Later, she became the head of the math department at West High.
     
  • Goodwin was a master of her subject who had a profound impact upon her students.
     
  • She stood just over five feet tall, but could “face down the biggest football player who wanted to go out for practice without getting his assignment done.”
