Mr. JEFFREY HETRICK

It is a great privilege to call myself a Goodwin Eagle! I joined West Aurora School District 129 in the fall of 2013. I have served as assistant principal at Hill, Greenman, and Goodwin Elementary Schools and am proud and humbled to lead the Goodwin Eagles. My teaching experience includes 4th, 5th, 6th grade and dean of students within Chicago Public Schools.

I was born and raised in Michigan, however, I am a Hoosier at heart. I attended Indiana University to obtain my undergraduate degree in elementary education and Northeastern Illinois University to achieve my masters degree in educational leadership. I now reside in Oswego with my wife, three sons, and daughter.

I look forward to the continued work with the students, families, and teaching staff this year at Goodwin and District 129 to promote the joy, complexity, and curiosity of learning!

I’m thrilled to be joining the Goodwin community as your new assistant principal. Most recently, I’ve been serving as a reading specialist at Freeman Elementary School and had the opportunity to step into the role of acting assistant principal earlier this school year. I bring over a decade of experience in both classroom teaching and instructional leadership, including time as a reading specialist in West Aurora and in Plainfield District 202.

Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about supporting both students and teachers. I’ve had the privilege of serving on several leadership teams, such as the Core Literacy Adoption Committee, the School Improvement Team, and the Instructional Minutes Committee. I’ve also enjoyed mentoring new teachers and organizing student activities like Girls Run Club and school talent shows.

I earned both my bachelor’s degree in elementary education and my master’s degree in reading instruction from Aurora University. As a former West Aurora student myself, I’m incredibly grateful to the Board of Education, district administration, and the Goodwin staff for the opportunity to step into this role. I’m excited to continue learning and growing alongside the amazing Goodwin team and can’t wait to partner with families to support our students.
